Taiwanese corporation «AU Optronics» («AUO») - is the leading producer of big size LCD display panels produced on the base of TFT-LCD technology. This kind of displays with flat screen at the present time is the most popular around the world. TFT displays are used in notebook computers, desktop computers, TV sets, digital cameras, portable DVD-players, mobile phones, portable game devices as well as in the automobile navigation systems and other applications. «AUO» was formed by the merger of two companies Acer Display Tecdhnology and Unipac Optoelectronics Corporation in 2001. As a result the company has an ability to produce TFT displays from 1.5 up to 46 inches and is one of the few companies that supplies to the both markets of compact LCD and big size LCD. “AU Optronics” supplies its TFT displays to the original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in the first turn, as well as to the Brand producers and component manufacturers. As to the status of years 2004 the “AUO” Company was in the third place position regarding the volume of sales among the big size TFT display manufacturers with market share nearly 13.6%. In the year 2003 the volume of sales accounted for 3.1 billion US dollars. Besides, «AU Optronics» have announced its intensions to use the growth of demand for solar panels. The Company plans to sell raw materials and components: silicon and thin film in particular, which are also used in LCD manufacturing. It became known in June that “AU Optronics” plans to takeover M.Setek Company, the Japanese manufacturer of polysilicon and polysilicon PCBs which are used in solar panel manufacturing.
